On 10 October 2021, four Sisters celebrated their Diamond Jubilees of Profession. Sr Sophie Hofmann OP celebrated in St Martin's, the Nursing Home of the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, California (USA), Sisters Maria Muth OP, Michaela Schäpermeier OP and Natalie Schlegel OP in Pietermaritzburg and Ekukhanyeni in South Africa.

Sr Maria Muth OP now lives in Pietermaritzburg. She celebrated her jubilee in our home for the elderly in Pietermaritzburg where she is spending her well-deserved retirement.

Sr Maria left for the mission in South Africa on 28 February 1962

Sr Maria was born on 10 October 1938 in Rüsselsheim am Main in Hesse (Germany). She entered the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of Oakford on 15 January 1960 in Neustadt and travelled to England on 7 February 1962. There she began learning the English language and waited for her visa for South Africa.

On 28 February 1962, she left for the mission in South Africa. She worked for a long time in the Motherhouse of the Dominican Congregation of St. Catherine of Siena at Oakford Priory (South Africa) in the administration and as bursar of the South African Area of the Congregation. She was meticulous in her work and very reliable. For many years, she supported "Boys Town South Africa" in Magaliesburg (South Africa) in its administration.

Sr. Michaela worked for many years in the Congregation's own hospitals and clinics.

Sisters Michaela Schäpermeier OP and Natalie Schlegel OP celebrated their Diamond Jubilee in Ekukhanyeni, KwaZulu/Natal, not far from Oakford Priory, in the "Valley of the Thousand Hills". The Congregation runs an AIDS hospice there.

Sr Michaela was born on 17 March 1936 in Kirchhellen, in the district of Recklinghausen in North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany). With her other companions she entered our Congregation on 15 January 1960 in Neustadt and went on mission to South Africa on 1 March 1962. Sr Michaela is a trained nurse and worked for many years in the Congregation's own hospitals and clinics.

Sr Natalie entered the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of Oakford on 15 January 1960 in Neustadt.

Sr Natalie was born on 25 April 1941 in Richelbach, in the district of Miltenberg in Lower Franconia (Germany). She, too, entered the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of Oakford on 15 January 1960 in Neustadt.

Together with Sr Michaela, she went on mission to South Africa on 1 March 1962. Sr Natalie also celebrated her 80th birthday this year. She is a trained nurse and ministered for a number of years in the mission in Argentina before returning to South Africa.

Sr. Michaela and Sr. Natalie are the good spirits in our AIDS Hospice in Ekukhanyeni.

We wish our jubilarians God's blessings and continued fulfilment in their vocation.
