On Sunday, 20th. August 2023, we celebratet Sr Petra Keller’s Profession of 75 years and Sr Ignatia Mshengu’s Profession of 45 years. It was also the celebration of the feast of the Assumption-Patroness of Villa Assumpta and of South Africa.

Sr Petra already celebrated her 95th birthday in March this year and is the oldest Oakford Sister in South Africa.

She taught music to generations of schoolgirls at Oakford, Greytown, Virginia, Manzini and Empangeni, and played the organ at parish celebrations of the eucharist.

During the years Sr Petra held several offices in our Congregation. She was house superior, regional councillor and general councillor.

Sr Ignatia Mshengu OP entered at Oakford and made her first Profession in 1978 together with Srs Anna-Rose, Anna-Maria and Generosa (RIP).

Her ministry has been a pastoral one – being involved in catechetics and parish work wherever she was assigned.

Since coming to “Villa Assumpta” she became a primary ‘helper’ to Sr Fidelia (RIP) by giving her reminders of what might be happening that day, spending time with her chatting, knitting, doing puzzles etc. She is presently also the sacristan in Villa Assumpta.

Congratulation to our two Sisters - we wish them many more blessed years in their apostolate of prayer.
