How can young people defend themselves against human trafficking?
In the parish "Our Lady of Good Help" in Verulam (South Africa) the parish leaders want to support the youth with different events and discuss with them current important topics.
Therefore, on 23 October 2023, when Father Simon Offordum SVD invited all the young people to the parish for the "Opening of the Youth Group, twenty-four from the Waterloo outstation attended. The participants got involved and participated enthusiastically and willingly in getting to know one another through games and songs.
A serious topic that was addressed and dealt with at this October meeting was "Human Trafficking/Trafficking in Persons." The leaders of the parish want to sensitize the young people to this topic, which is currently a very important issue in a world that is coming apart at the seams, but which can also be associated with many dangers.
The young people should be able to recognize when it can happen to them or other young people or how they can fall into the clutches of such traffickers - and how they can take precautions for themselves in advance in order not to get involved in these fraudulent behaviours.
Marie Ann Arnold, workshop leader, deanery coordinator for catechetics and board member of the Catechetical Commission and our Sister Lidia Danyluk OP accepted Father Simon's invitation to connect with the young people. The young people realised that with her workshop Marie Ann Arnold addressed an important and serious topic.
