Return to the place of origin
Six sisters, together with Irene Schneider and Andrea Pfeuffer, set off from Kist for Neustadt to visit the place that marked the beginning of their monastic life and where some of them had lived for many years.
First, they went to the cemetery, where they paid their respects to their deceased sisters and each was able to lay a rose on a sister’s grave. There was also plenty of time to visit the graves of people from Neustadt with whom they had had a connection.
Afterwards, they enjoyed some coffee and cake in the café on the further monastery area and chatted with the locals from Neustadt.
To round off the day, there was a visit to the former convent, where everyone was delighted to see the statue of Saint Dominic in the convent garden. In the deconsecrated chapel – which remains intact apart from the cleared-out pews – hymns were sung and prayers were said together. It was very moving for everyone to visit this place once more, where many years ago the sisters made their first vows to live as an Oakford Dominican sister, where they prayed daily and celebrated Mass.
Grateful, enriched and somewhat tired, the sisters drove back to their home in Kist, feeling deeply fulfilled.
