Running became part of her life

Sr Lidia Maria Danyluk OP

Sr Lidia Maria Danyluk OP started running the day after the funeral of her beloved mother in Argentina. Her brother Luis had invited Sr Lidia to run with him and her sisters to the cemetery some 12 Kilometers away, where their mother is buried.

For Sr. Lidia, this was meaningful and the beginning of her running career. Today, she not only runs to the poorest in the Valley of a Thousand Hills, but also runs regularly.

Sr Lidia doesn't like to run alone, “I don't feel safe there,” she says. That's why she joined the Bedfordview running club in Johannesburg (South Africa). She completed her first run in Edenvale. She enjoyed the ten-kilometre run. Sr Lidia ran until Covid stopped all social activities. In March 2020, she moved to Magaliesburg and continued training. A year later, in May 2021, she moved to Ekukhanyeni in the “Valley of a Thousand Hills” and improved her running skills by training on gravel and hilly roads.

She joined the Verulam Athletic Club and ran two half marathons (21.1 km) this year and her first full marathon (42 km) on November 17. “I feel good and energized when I run and it has now become part of my lifestyle,” says Sr. Lidia.
