Sr Anna-Rose pays tribute to Sr Immaculata

Sr Immaculata Ngubane celebrated her diamond jubilee of profession on 8 September 2024 in the parish church at Ekukhanyeni Mission near Durban, and with her community in the adjacent convent.

Sr Mackie, as she is known by everyone, and her companion from the novitiate, Sr Catherine Madlala, are the first of the Oakford Zulu sisters to mark sixty years of profession.

Officially retired from formal ministry, Sr Mackie engages with the supervision of the convent kitchen. She is on the board of the Napier Centre for Healing (Cardinal Wilfrid Napier has taken a passionate interest in the plight of recovering addicts and has committed himself to the creation of a residential care centre to reintegrate them back into society). And she is an energetic member of her small house community of four sisters.

In active ministry in the past, she was involved in high school teaching in Swaziland, in parish work in KwaNdebele, in spiritual direction at St John Vianney seminary in Pretoria, in youth ministry with youth volunteers at Hartbeespoort, Pretoria.

She was also part of an apostolic visitation team that was led by Fr Sep Anthoffer OMI to visit diocesan religious congregations.   She undertook studies in theology in Rome and in the USA.

Congratulations Sr Mackie!
