A platinum jubilee in England

Modern technology enables contact even across oceans – Sr Sarah (in England) speaks with Sr Paula-Mary (in South Africa)

Sr. Sarah is congratulated by her friendly nurses

Sr Sarah O-Rourke OP celebrated her platinum jubilee of profession (70 years of profession)

Sr Sarah O-Rourke at St Vincent’s Nursing Home in Pinner, London, is the only remaining Oakford Sister in England. On Friday 11 February she celebrated her platinum jubilee of profession (70 years of profession).

On the 10 February there was a celebration of the Eucharist in the St Vincent’s Chapel to mark the occasion.

Modern technology: Sr. Sarah chatted with the sisters in South Africa via zoom meeting

And on the jubilee day itself three members of the Congregational Leadership present in South Africa connected with Sr Sarah on Zoom.

With the help of her friend Sr Sarah chatted to Sisters in Benoni/Johannesburg

With the help of her long-time friend Mrs Eileen Mcloughlin managing the technology, Sr Sarah chatted to Sisters Paula-Mary, Alison and Helen-Veronica in Benoni/Johannesburg.

Her great disappointment is that there have been Covid restrictions around visits, and that her own Oakford Sisters have not been able to visit her.

Sr. Sarah enjoyed the many WhatsApp messages and congratulations from South Africa

She enjoyed the various WhatsApp clips she received, and was delighted with photographs of Sisters and places she remembered from all her time in the Congregation.

And after the Zoom conversation there was cake to be enjoyed, and a glass to be raised!
