Mourning the death of Sr. Claretta Mthalane OP
Sr. Claretta devoted herself, heart and soul to God through her vowed life as an Oakford Dominican Sister in our Congregation. She died on 12. December at the age of 77.
"In a polarised society we are called to offer a concrete model of community which, acknowledging the dignity of each person and sharing our respective gifts, makes it possible to live as brothers and sisters." (Pope Francis)
On the 26 June 1944, Emmerentia Ntombikayise was born as the first of nine children in Kwa Mgwagwa, Pietermaritzburg.
Her confirmation in the community of faith led her to explore the desire to become a close friend of Jesus. She then entered religious life at our Motherhouse Convent in Oakford, Verulam, in December 1963, made her first Profession in June 1967, beginning her new life as a professed religious sister.
Sr Claretta trained as a nurse and mid-wife and was a woman of deep integrity, and clarity as to what was right and correct.
We thank God, and her family, for the gift of our Sister Claretta’s life, lived and shared generously with us. She devoted herself, heart and soul to God through her vowed life as an Oakford Dominican Sister in our Congregation.
