Diamond Jubilee of Sr Paula Hinxlage
The Magaliesburg community celebrated the diamond jubilee of Sr Paula Hinxlage on the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, a special date in the Hinxlage family calendar.
Covid restrictions limited the number of people who could be present, but Srs Paula-Mary and Alison from the generalate joined the community and Fr Nkosinathi Dlamini, the parish priest of St James parish at Magaliesburg, for Mass of thanksgiving and a celebratory lunch.
Given that there was no electricity in the area that day, special thanks were given to Sr Lidia for a wonderful meal despite the odds.
Sr Paula’s long religious life covers a wide range of ministries including cooking at Osindisweni at a time when the hospital belonged to the Congregation and studying alongside cooking; teaching and being the principal at St Xavier’s School at Oakford; completing a PhD in psychology in the USA, and returning to South Africa to take on therapy with different clients.
In more recent times she has been involved with the boys at Boy Town in Magaliesburg in various supportive roles, and only in 2020 because of Covid restrictions gave up the volunteer remedial work she undertook with some of the children in a local school near Magaliesburg. Her current community appreciates her willingness to spend time in the kitchen yet again.
