"My name is Gabriella Williams, OP a Dominican Sister of Oakford. I worked the last nine years in Immigration law helping immigrants from all over the world get status to enter and live in the United States.

Monday through Friday, I presently am volunteering at “Casa Maria Soup Kitchen” in Tucson/ Arizona (USA) a center for the homeless to receive daily food and clothing. Casa Maria has been serving the homeless for over 40 years as well as poor families needing assistance with food.

We serve between 200 to 400 homeless people daily. There are many volunteers who help with prepare delicious soup meals and lunches for the community in need. The homeless can also sign up for showers each day at the another building next to the soup kitchen and receive the necessary hygiene such as soap, shampoo, conditions, shavers, and clothing.

Many organizations and local food stores donate their produce of vegetables, meats, and staples to the soup kitchen each day.

Twice a week a local clinic provides doctors and nurses to be available to the public living on the streets.

On Monday outside the soup kitchen under a covered area we have the celebration of mass for all the people.

Volunteering is an amazing experience to serve and know those who are the unseen of our society, those who are the voiceless due to circumstances and situations of all kinds.

Many are veterans of war and find it too difficult to keep a job because of the trauma they have experienced. These men and women are our brothers and sisters most in need.

Thank God there is a “Casa Maria Soup Kitchen” that brings dignity to each person that visits our soup kitchen."
