Dominican Missionary Sisters in Zambia Celebrate a Centenary

After the unveiling of the statue of St Dominic

Sisters from various countries join in the joyful celebration

A joyful celebration

Sisters Alison Munro and Anna Rose Ngubane represented the Dominican Sisters of Oakford at the centenary celebrations marking the arrival of the first Dominican Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Zambia (Strahlfeld in Germany).

The two Sisters joined five other Dominicans from South Africa, one from the Montebello Dominicans, two from the King Williams Town Dominicans (Schlehdorf in Germany) and two friars. Dominican Missionary Sisters from England, Germany, Zimbabwe and Kenya also made the journey to Zambia.

The Archbishop of the newly erected Archdiocese of Ndola was the main celebrant at a beautifully prepared Mass involving alumni of the Sisters’ schools in Zambia, government officials, and current staff and students. Priests and Sisters working in Zambia were also among the invited guests.

The history of the early beginnings of the first three sisters was recounted, and the provision of quality education in different schools was celebrated in a truly African and Zambian way.  After a special lunch, students entertained the guests in a jamb-packed programme.

The Zambian Region of the Dominican Missionary Sisters is where the Congregation is growing, with many young Sisters, novices and candidates.
