Leaving the Church and back to school

The “Convent School of Our Lady of Natal”, on property owned by the Congregation is a Pre-Primary and Junior Primary School catering for the Foundation Phase of education up to Grade Three. Sr Marie-Ann Main teaches religious education in all the classes. While the school has a Catholic ethos it caters to children of all faiths.

The school welcomed the staff and children back after Easter and on Friday, April, 14th 2023 an Easter Mass was celebrated in the nearby St Xavier’s Parish Church with participation by all. The Sisters who live at St Dominic’s and who run the house of prayer and retreat centre were present.

The Convent School was established by the Dominican Sisters in the 1970s at the invitation of the late Archbishop Hurley, but has for many years been run by a school governing body under a lay principal.

The quality of its education is excellent, attracting children from across the Bluff area of Durban and in recent times more so from the neighbouring area of Wentworth. In 2022 the former convent of the Sisters became part of the school, allowing for expansion of classroom space for new subjects.
