Sr. Albertina was a constant in Neustadt am Main. She died on December 1st, 2022 at the age of 92.

The Neustadt Dominican Sisters Mourning the death of Sr. Albertina Mauel OP, who was cared for in Seniorenzentrum St. Martin in Lohr and also died there. Sr. Albertina was born on November 10, 1930 in Leverkusen.

In 2019, she spoke about her vocation to enter our Convent in Neustadt in our internal order magazine "RUAH":

"My vocation is rooted in my childhood when I learned that my father had been killed in a bombing raid and had left my mother behind with three adolescent children.

Already then, I realized how fragile life is. Death led me to vigilance in the here and now. Religious life offered itself as a companion to the actual goal. During my deployment in kindergartens and colleges in Cologne, I was in search of what my life's journey would be and visited the Romanesque churches.

My entry into the Convent at Neustadt was based on the promise that I would be allowed to sail one day to the mission in South Africa. I was compelled to bring to people on other continents the joyful and liberating message of ,Jesus Christ'.

It came differently. HE wanted me in Neustadt and Erlach. I experienced myself as a member of a community of pilgrims on this earth, travelling towards a common goal. This has connected me with the people - not the distance has lured me, but the depth: ,here the ground of our desire is laid'.

For five years, I participated in the ,Aktion Missio' under the direction of Father Willigis Jäger, who opened the windows to the Asian world through his training as a Zen master.

The borough of Neustadt hired me as a kindergarten teacher. After 12 years, I started my studies as a Special Education teacher in Würzburg and then worked in the REHA-Centre, St Michael, in Neustadt. In 1995,

I returned to the parish and worked as a pastoral assistant in Neustadt and Erlach. Lady teachers joined the work in our church to find out about and share with one another how they could bring religion across to their classes at school in a positive way.

The Vicar General of the diocese assigned me to administer the parish of Neustadt/Erlach until a new pastor would be named. During this period, I took care of the sick and dying. At that time, groups of people from the district of Main-Spessart joined to form ,bereavement circles'.  These groups of carers in times of bereavement still have a positive influence today.

In 2007, our former Congregational Prioress, Sr Dagmar Fasel, entrusted me with the direction of the two discussion rooms in the convent of the Missionary Dominicans in Neustadt. Here, those seeking help can find peace and, above all, have a contact person sitting opposite them, who addresses their concerns and needs without prejudice. -  To remain searchers on the road with searchers! - The actual apostolate is carried out by God through me, his instrument. It includes old, sick and young people.

Faith is the connecting element and the foundation of our common action. The bridge between Neustadt and Erlach has become my symbol."
