Valentine’s Day at Riverside Park Home

Srs Justina and Leonie celebrated Valentine's Day and birthday in the Riverside Park home.

Six Sisters belonging to the Villa Assumpta local community in Pietermaritzburg, Südafrika, live at Riverside Park Home in retirement. On Saturday, 13th February, the residents celebrated Valentine’s day in the garden, keeping within Covid protocols. The same day Sr Justina celebrated her birthday, and a few days after that Sr Leona was due to celebrate hers. A great time was had by all.

The Riverside Park Home has had to adhere to strict regulations to ensure the safety of all residents, and strict lockdowns have been necessary to ensure that Covid does not spread among the residents. Quarantine measures have been necessary from time to time. South Africa’s Covid vaccine programme has not yet begun, but it is expected that health care workers will shortly be the first in line to be vaccinated.

The Sisters who live at Riverside Park Home have taken on new ministries, visiting and befriending residents, leading prayer services and participating in various social activities.

The Riverside Park Home falls under the Pietermaritzburg and District Care of the Aged (PADCA) with which the Dominican Congregation of Oakford is entering a partnership agreement.
